Reduce your pain

In a painful situation?

Sometimes living can become very painful and problems can seem overwhelming and hopeless. Situations that may contribute to a feeling of pain and hopelessness include:
  • Feeling Alone- like you do not belong anywhere
  • Drug, alcohol or gambling addictions
  • Sexual, physical or emotional abuse
  • Major loss and grief such as a death
  • Relationship Difficulties and break-ups
  • Financial Loss/Pressure e.g. unemployment
  • Family problems
  • Mental Illness, including schizophrenia, bipolar and depression
  • School, university or work problems
If you are experiencing any of the above, You can get through it! Consider doing any of the following:

1) Postpone any decision to end your life. Keep a list of other things you can do to distract yourself. Many people report that by postponing a decision to die they found that life did change, they got the support they needed and could move on to a better, happier place.

2) Tell Some One- It is important to choose someone who will not judge you and can really see outside the square by offering objective advice. Some people, sometimes those close to you, really care but may react badly to what you may be going through and any suicidal feelings, either because they are frightened, or angry. This is about them, not you. For someone to talk to click on the ‘Help List’.

3) If you are seeking relief from pain: Remember that relief is a feeling and you need to be alive to feel it. Enlist more coping resources to Stay Alive and Live Life.

4) After the suicidal feelings go away, it is important to keep caring for yourself. Seeing a counselor really does help. There is nothing wrong with shopping around until you find a counselor who you feel really understands you.

If any of the above have not helped please call 131114.
